Early Years Foundation Stage
All areas of the curriculum are addressed through the seven Areas of Learning in the Foundation Stage. This is implemented by planning in a cross curricular approach, allowing children to either access them as a child initiated activity or an adult-led activity.
Music Curriculum Years 1-6
At Ravensmead children in Years 1-6 are taught by our Music Specialist in our dedicated Music classroom. Children will be taught to:
- Listen and appraise
- Play musical games
- Play instruments including glockenspiel, recorder, ukulele, keyboards and untuned percussion
- Play by ear and begin to read musical notation
Lessons will be linked to the topic the children are currently studying with their class teacher where possible. Other units of work will stand alone.
During the academic year 2014-15 Ravensmead will take advice from many areas and continue to develop its assessment policy. The assessment of pupils’ learning during the lesson continues to be vital.
A Whole School Approach
At Ravensmead we are a ‘Singing school!’ We regularly sing together as staff and pupils in class, in hymn practice and assemblies.
Music is central to school life at Ravensmead with lots of opportunities to create a real WOW factor! Children will perform at various points during the year: in class assemblies, Harvest festivals, Carol services, Christmas Productions and Summer Productions.
We are very excited to have been chosen to take part in the Young Voices concert series at the MEN Arena in Manchester. Young Voices are the largest school choir concerts in the world! Find out more at www.youngvoices.co.uk We are enjoying learning all the songs and dance moves at our lunchtime rehearsals.
Children are given opportunities to learn to play the recorder in after school recorder clubs.
We offer Key Stage 2 children opportunities to learn to play the flute, clarinet and guitar in small groups with specialist music teachers from Entrust Music and Performing Arts Services.

Young Voices 2016
Download the official Young Voices app. This year Young Voices have launched an app which you can download onto your smart phone. This will allow you to locate us in the choir and see photos taken by Mrs Webb during the rehearsal and the concert (if she can get it to work, fingers crossed). There will be a special code for our school that you will be notified of by text.
